Writer-Director Vinta Nanda Accuses the ‘Sanskaari’ Alok Nath of the Sexual Harassment and Rape; Shares a Distressing Story on Facebook

The #MeToo movement had already fetched a momentum and has helped a lot of women to fiercely come forward and daringly unzip all the abuses and harassments they have had agonized.


And now, #MeToo India – the pot is boiling over.

Soon after Tanushree Dutta‘s shocking accusations about sexual harassment by the veteran, Nana Patekar, during the sets of “Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss“; the sexual misconduct by Vikas Bahl, former employee of the Phantom Films, did surface on the social media.

Amidst this, pointing to the ‘sanskari’ character of the industry, writer-director,Vinta Nanda, of the 90s’ TV soap – ‘Tara‘; took to Facebook to share a distressing story that happened two decades ago.

In a post, she writes about the harrowing story of the abuses she had to agonize during the times when her show ‘Tara’ was hitting high popularity.

Not mentioning the name, she points the accusations to the actor popular as ‘sanskari’ in the industry for a bunch of idealistic characters he has played on-screen.

Also, she writes that actor was in a lead role in television show produced by herself – Tara.



According to the reports, Nanda later on cleared everyone’s doubts and identified the accused as Alok Nath.
Also, Nanda alleged Alok Nath an abusive alcoholic who also harassed the lead female actor of her show.

In the post, she wrote,

“He was after my lead girl. She was not interested in him. He was alcoholic, shameless and obnoxious but he was also the television star of that decade, so not only was he forgiven for all his bad behaviour, but many of the guys would egg him on to be his worst. My lead female actor was being harassed by him.”

Nanda also reveals how Alok Nath barge in the show using his contacts even after they had managed to kick him off.

Also, she claims about how Alok Nath managed to sabotage her career with his powerful contacts. She narrates how she had lost her production house and how all her shows were cancelled immediately.

She writes how her drinks were spiked at a party, further leading Alok Nath violating her at her own home.

“I hadn’t just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had been brutalised. I couldn’t get up from my bed.”

Also, she talked about her friends who suggested her not to report and to ‘let it go’ upon narrating the incident back then.



Vinta Nanda reveals the harrowing story about how Alok Nath managed to sabotage her entire career even after sexually violating her.

To maintain a distance with the actor, Nanda reveals she told the producers that she would only write the show and not direct. And she mentions how she had to quit after it took a heavy toll to her mental health.

“I was completely shattered by then. It was a nervous breakdown I was going through, but I was trying to be brave. I continued to write, but the couple of times that I pushed myself and found the courage to pitch for shows, I would break down during meetings.”

It is now, after two decades that Vinta Nanda could gather courage to come forward and reveal the bottled up truth.

“The only reason I’m telling this story now is because I don’t want that any girl should ever fear holding the truth back. What followed because of my silence was even worse.”

Vinta Nanda also expressed her thankfulness to social media claiming to help her come out with the horrific story.

After learning of this harrowing story, actor Sushant Singh, the Indian actor and the ‘Honorary Secretary’ of CINTAA, took to Twitter to come out in support of Vinta Nanda. Speaking on behalf of the TV artistes’ association, Sushant Singh urged Vinta Nanda to take a needful action.

In the wake of this sexual harassment and rape allegations by the writer and filmmaker, Vinta Nanda; the news floats that the television actress and the female lead of the show ‘Tara’, Navneet Nishan had sued Alok Nath for Rupees 1 Crore back in the year 1994. Also, Navneet alleged that Alok Nath had harassed her for four consecutive years. Backing up her support to all the women standing with the #MeToo movement, Navneet said,

“I dealt with the four-year harassment by slapping the man in question, and it is done and dusted. l suffered the loss of the show and was further shamed by the man through media and I endured that.”
